Today is 9/11/2011, and completes four years of my blogging at ಅಲ್ಲಿದೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆ. Time indeed goes fast!
Sincere thanks to all those readers who have been coming to this space, reading my posts through these four years, and encouraged me to write about topics that are close to my heart.
Instead of a new post today, I am re-posting my very blog post once again.
ಅಲ್ಲಿದೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆ, ಇಲ್ಲಿರುವುದು ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ!
ಕದಬಾಗಿಲಿರಿಸಿದ ಕಳ್ಳ ಮನೆಇದು
ಮುದದಿಂದಲೋಡ್ಯಾಡೋ ಸುಳ್ಳು ಮನೆ |
ಇದಿರಾಗಿ ವೈಕುಂಠವಾಸಮಾಡುವಂತ
ಪದುಮನಾಭನ ದಿವ್ಯ ಬದುಕುಮನೆ ||

ಚಿಕ್ಕಂದಿನಿಂದ ದೇವರನಾಮಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳುತ್ತಲೆ ಬೆಳೆದವನು ನಾನು. ಅಮ್ಮ ನನಗೆ ನೆನಪಿದ್ದಂತೆ, ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆದ್ದಾಗಿನಿಂದ, ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಕಳಿಸುವವರೆಗೂ ಒಂದೆಡೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತ, ಇತ್ತಕಡೆ ಹಾಡುತ್ತಲೇ ಇರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಇನ್ನೂ ಮನೆಯ ಅಡುಗೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ಎಲ್ಲ ಮುಗಿಯುವವರೆಗೆ ಅವರ ಹಾಡುಗಳು ಮುಂದುವರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. ಅವರ ಅಮ್ಮ, ಅಂದರೆ ನನ್ನ ಅಜ್ಜಿಯಂತೂ ಬೆಳಗಿನಿಂದ ಸಂಜೆಯವರೆಗೂ ಹೀಗೇ ಹಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರಂತೆ. ಆದರೆ, ನನಗೆ ನೆನಪಿರುವ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಹಾಡಲು ಅಷ್ಟಾಗಿ ಆಗುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದಿರಲಿ, ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಆಕಾಶವಾಣಿಯ ೮:೨೦ ರ ರೇಡಿಯೋ ಸಂಗೀತದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ನಮ್ಮ ಅಮ್ಮನಿಗೆ ಹಾಡುವುದರಿಂದ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿ, ಮತ್ತು ರೇಡಿಯೋಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾಡುವ ಯೋಗ. ಅಮ್ಮನಿಗೆ ನೂರೋ ಇನ್ನೂರೋ ದೇವರನಾಮಗಳು ಬರುತ್ತವೆ. ಅಷ್ಟಲ್ಲದೇ, ಹೊಸದೊಂದು ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಕಂಡರೆ, ಕೇಳಿದರೆ ತಕ್ಷಣ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಂದುವ ರಾಗ ಹಾಕಿ ಹಾಡುವುದು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಈಗಲೂ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಾದ ವಿಷಯ. ದೇವರನಾಮಗಳಿಗೆ, ಕೃತಿಗಳಷ್ಟು ಸಂಗತಿಗಳ ಬಂಧವಿಲ್ಲ – ಬೇರೆಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯಸ್ತರಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ಹಾಡಲು ಅದೇ ಸಲೀಸು ಎಂದು ಅವರ ಎಣಿಕೆ ಎನಿಸುತ್ತೆ. ತ್ಯಾಗರಾಜರ, ದೀಕ್ಷಿತರ ಕೃತಿಗಳಾದರೆ ತಂಬೂರಿ ಮೀಟುತ್ತಾ ಕುಳಿತು ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸಿ ಹಾಡಿದರೆ ಚೆನ್ನ. ಅವು ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಆಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಅರಳುವ ಗುಲಾಬಿಗಳಂತೆ. ಆದರೆ, ದೇವರನಾಮಗಳು ಸ್ವಭಾವಸುಂದರ ವಾದ ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ, ಸಂಪಿಗೆಗಳಂತೆ. ಬಣ್ಣದಲ್ಲಿ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ, ಸುವಾಸನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊರತೆ ಇಲ್ಲ. ನಾನು ನನಗೆ ಬರುವ ಹಾಡುಗಳನ್ನೂ ಹೀಗೆ ಅಮ್ಮ ಹಾಡುವಾಗ ಕೇಳಿ ಕೇಳಿ ಕಲಿತದ್ದೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು.
ಅದಿರಲಿ – ಎಷ್ಟೋ ದಿನದಿಂದ ಈ ಬ್ಲಾಗ್ ಹೆಸರೂ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಖಾಲಿ ಬಿದ್ದಿತ್ತು. ಏನಾದರೊಂದು ಬರೆಯೋಣವೆಂದಾಗ ಇದ್ದಕ್ಕಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಈ ದೇವರನಾಮ ನೆನಪಾಯಿತು. ಸರಿ, ನನ್ನ ಬ್ಲಾಗಿಗೊಂದು ಚಂದವಾದ ಹೆಸರು ಸಿಕ್ಕಿತೆನ್ನಿಸಿತು.ಅದನ್ನೇ ಇಟ್ಟುಬಿಟ್ಟೆ!
ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನವರು ಇಷ್ಟು ದೊರಕಿದರೆ ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಬೇಕೆಂಬಾಸೆ, ಅಷ್ಟು ದೊರಕಿದರೆ, ಮತ್ತಿಷ್ಟರಾಸೆಯವರೇ. ಅದಕ್ಕೇ ಇರಬೇಕು – ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಮುನ್ನುಗ್ಗುವ ಓಟವೇ. ಆದರೆ, ನಿಜವಾಗಿ ನಮಗೆ ನಾವು ಬಯಸುವ ಆಸರೆ ಎಲ್ಲಾದರೂ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆಯೇ? ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿ ಸಿಗಬೇಕಾದ್ದು ಒಳಗೋ ಹೊರಗೋ? ದೂರಬೆಟ್ಟದಲೊಂದು ಮನೆಯಿರಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಬಯಸುವ ನಾವು, ಅಲ್ಲೇ ಮನೆ ಮಾಡಿದಾಗಲಾದರೂ ಸುಮ್ಮನಾಗುತ್ತೇವೆಯೇ? ಆಗಲೂ ಅಲ್ಲಿದೆ ನಮ್ಮಮನೆ, ಇಲ್ಲಿರುವುದು ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಎನ್ನಬಹುದೇ? ಕನಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣುವ ನೋಟಗಳು ಕನಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರವೇ ಚೆನ್ನವೇ? ಪುರಂದರ ದಾಸರಂತಹ ವೈರಾಗ್ಯ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲವಲ್ಲ! ಹಾಗೇ, ಈ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಗೋ ಮುಂದೆ ನಡೆಯಬೇಕಾದ್ದರಿಂದಲೇ ಹೀಗೆ ಏನೇನಾದರೂ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಬಂದಂತೆ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಿದೇನೆಯೇ ನಾನು? ನಾನು ಗಳಹುವುದನ್ನೂ ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಓದಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಆಸೆಯೇ? ಅಥವಾ ಇನ್ನೆಲ್ಲೋ ಸಾಧಿಸಲಾಗದ್ದನ್ನು, ಸಿಗದ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯನ್ನು, ಆರಸಿದ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯನ್ನು ಇನ್ನೆಲ್ಲೋ ಅರಸುವ ಚಟವೇ ಇದು? ಉತ್ತರ ಅಷ್ಟೇನೂ ಸುಲಭದ್ದಲ್ಲ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ, ಈ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೀ ಕಪ್ಪು-ಬಿಳುಪಲ್ಲದೆ ಮಧ್ಯದ ನೂರಾರು ವರ್ಣಛಾಯೆಗಳಿವೆಯಲ್ಲ!
ಅಂದಹಾಗೆ, ಚಿಕ್ಕವನಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ನಾನು ದಾಸರ ಪದಗಳು ಎನ್ನುವ ಹೆಸರಿಸುವಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ದಾಸರು ಬರೆದದ್ದೆಲ್ಲ ನನಗೆ ದೇವರನಾಮವೇ. ನಂತರವೇ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಪದ-ಸುಳಾದಿ-ಉಗಾಭೋಗ ಮೊದಲಾದ ವಿಧಗಳಿರುವುದು ತಿಳಿದದ್ದು ಎನ್ನಿ. ಈ ಮೊದಲು ಬರೆದ ಹಾಡು ಒಂದು ಪದ – ಈ ಹಾಡಿನ ಪಾರಮಾರ್ಥಿಕ ಅರ್ಥಗಳ ಬಹಳ ಆಳಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗದೆ ಹೋದರೂ, ಈ ದೇವರನಾಮ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಹೇಗೋ, ಹಾಗೇ ಇಂತಹ ಬ್ಲಾಗುಗಳಿಗೂ ಒಂದು ಕನ್ನಡಿ ಎನಿಸುತ್ತೆ ನನಗೆ. ಈ ಬ್ಲಾಗ್ ಎಂಬ ಮನೆಗಳಿಗೆ ನಾವು ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಬಂದಿರಬಹುದು. ಇದು ನಮ್ಮ ನೆಲೆ ಅಲ್ಲದಿರಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮುದದಿಂದ ಓಡಾಡುವುದಂತೂ ಖಂಡಿತ! ಹೇಗೆ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವು ಪದುಮನಾಭನನ್ನು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ನಿಜಮುಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಬಹುದೋ, ಇಲ್ಲೂ ಅಂತೆಯೇ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದ ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾತಾಡುತ್ತ, ಕೆಲವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದು, ಕೆಲವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿರಬಹುದಲ್ಲ?
ಈ ಕೊನೆಯ ಸಾಲನ್ನು ಬರೆಯುವಂತೆಯೇ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಸೊಗಸಾದ ದೇವರನಾಮ ನೆನಪಾಯಿತು – ಅದು ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ದಿನಕ್ಕಿರಲಿ! ಅತಿಪರಿಚಯಾತ್ ಅನಾದರಂ ಅಲ್ಲವೇ? ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೇ ಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಸಿಹಿಯೂ ಕಹಿಯಾದೀತು!

*ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಜನರನ್ನು ಯಮದೂತರು ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೇ ಕರೆದೊಯ್ದ ಈ ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ ಹನ್ನೊಂದರ ದಿನ, ಈ ಜೀವನದ ನಶ್ವರತೆಯನ್ನು ಬಿಂಬಿಸುವ ಈ ಹಾಡು ನನಗೆ ನೆನಪಾದದ್ದು ಕಾಕತಾಳೀಯವೋ ನಾನರಿಯೆ. ಅಂದು ಸಲುಗಿದ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳು ಈಗಲಾದರೂ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಸಮಾಧಾನವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಲಿ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ನನ್ನ ಆಸೆ. ಸರ್ವೇ ಜನಾಃ ಸುಖಿನೋ ಭವಂತು.
We all have some treasures that we cherish and wish to keep them ourselves. But there are some treasures that multiply when we share them with others!
न चोरहार्यम् न च राजहार्यम् न भ्रातृभाज्यम् न च भारकारि ।
व्यये कृते वर्धत एव नित्यम् विद्या धनम् सर्वधनप्रदानम् ॥
na chOra hAryam na cha rAja hAryam na bhAatr bhAjyam nacha bhArakAri
vyayE krtE vardhata Eva nityam vidyA dhanam sarva dhana pradhAnam
Yes; there is one treasure that grows as you spend it. This treasure can not be robbed by thieves, nor could this treasure be taxed by the government. It can’t be divided among siblings nor is it a heavy load to carry. Unlike other treasures, this one grows when you spend it! This treasure called the ‘knowledge’ (Vidya) is the most important treasure that you could ever possess.
The best way to share your knowledge is by choosing a teaching profession. But do not despair if you are not in a position to do that. If it were a couple of decades ago, it would almost be impossible for you to share with others what you know in a meaningful way, unless you happened to be an author, or a teacher of some sort. Not the same case anymore. The Internet age has made it possible for anyone to spread the knowledge they have much more meaningfully, and also made it easier to target that knowledge very specifically to those for whom it is useful.
Sure, it may be possible for you to market your skills outside your current profession to make some money. But everyone does not have the time and resources such a second vocation demands. So what should you do?
Share. As in freely sharing what you know. The possibilities are limit-less, and confined only by how much time you can spare, and your imagination.
Consider becoming a blogger and start writing about things you care or you know well. You will definitely make new friends who share your interests. You can share information useful to your blog visitors, and you will also end up learning quite a bit in the process. Although blogs were initially supposed to be some kind of web diaries, these days you can see lot’s of ‘how to’ blogs that can teach you anything from planting tomato seeds to installing hardwood floors!
Another good way to share your knowledge is becoming a member of a community blog or a specialty forum. I have been participating in different music related forums for quite sometime. This has enabled me to enjoy it better than what I would have done otherwise. I also have the satisfaction of answering question others with similar interests might have.
A bit more involved way which takes a bit of extra effort from you is going the Wikipedia way. Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia, available in more than 200 languages. You can a contribute articles to Wikipedia on any subject you good at. If you are proficient in more than one language and you don’t want to be involved in the reference-citing that Wikipedia requires when you write articles, you can translate existing articles in one language into another, thus opening up a knowledge base to new readers.
So, what are you waiting for? Follow my suggestions, and share your treasures the e-way. I promise you won’t be disappointed, and find it very fulfilling.
But if you aren’t faint-at-heart like I am, and want to go the extra mile, you should set someone like my fellow blogger Vidya as an example. Dr P P Narayana Swamy and Vidya, after publishing the English translation of Subburama Dikshitar’s Sangeetha Sampradaya Pradarshini (SSP) on the web a few years ago, now have published the first volume of SSP in print!

As the year is coming to a close, I would like to wish all the visitors here a very happy year 2009 ahead!
The financial meltdown of the past year has caused havoc in almost everyone’s lives. Since the situation is so bad now, my hope is that it can only get better. May be that is the way of looking at the glass as half-full 🙂 rather than half-empty.
This was my first (full) year as a blogger. I was little surprised to see I made than 60 blog posts here this year! May be little too much, considering I tend to write only about a few things that interest me. On the other hand, blogging got me the friendship with a lot of like-minded people. I would definitely consider a blessing of the year 2008!
